Since January 4, 2022, at least 15 colleges and universities fell victim to ransomware attacks.
This is to no surprise, as over 70% of the top 100 higher education institutions have a C or lower cyber rating. With poor cyber posture, universities are a clear target for threat actors.
Higher Education institutions that offer financial services to students are required to comply with the GLBA, specifically the upcoming Safeguard Rule amendment for 2022. This will be the first step in a process to secure a more positive cyber posture. One of the new requirements is oversight and assessment of service providers.
